About Punta Arenas Whale Watching
A guide for your day out to the humpbacks
Punta Arenas Whale Watching is an independent guide for everyone planning to see the humpback whales of the Strait of Magellan from Punta Arenas. Here you will find which months the whales feed near Isla Carlos III, how the boat, kayak and dolphin trips compare, what else to do in the city, how to reach the penguins of Magdalena Island and Tierra del Fuego, how to arrive and travel on to Puerto Natales, Antarctica or Ushuaia, and how to stay warm and well on the boat.
The site is available in English and five additional languages. It is written first in English.
How we research
Every number on our pages comes from a source that we link to at the bottom of the page: mostly Chilean public bodies and scientific journals, such as the Ministry of the Environment, the national forest service CONAF, the national library of laws, the official tourism board, and peer-reviewed studies of the Strait of Magellan humpbacks, with temperatures and rain days from the World Meteorological Organization 1991 to 2020 normals for the Punta Arenas airport station and daylight hours we calculated ourselves. Information about individual tours comes from their listings on GetYourGuide.
Whales are wild animals and the strait is known for its wind. Trips also differ in boat, length and what they include. That is why we tell you plainly what a listing states and what it leaves open.
How we make money
Punta Arenas Whale Watching is funded through the GetYourGuide affiliate program. When you book through one of our links, we receive a commission; your price remains the same. There are no advertising banners here, and we do not sell your data.
Who is behind it
Punta Arenas Whale Watching is run by Lukas Weber from Munich. You will find all details about the provider in the legal notice. The easiest way to send questions, comments, or corrections is to email [email protected].
